Greg’s chest tightens with dread. “Chelsea... if you ever want to talk about what happened, I hope you know I’m here for you.”

“Thanks. But I feel like that’s all I’ve been doing—talking. I’ve talked about it with Kalid, and the cops, and a little with my Dad. I’m talked out.”

“Maybe. Maybe not. You’re still having nightmares.”

She swivels back to him. “What? How do you know that?”

“Well, you told me the other day, for one. But also, I heard you.”

“You—heard me?”

“You called out last night. I don’t know what you said, maybe it wasn’t actual words. But it woke me up.”

Her mouth parts slightly, mortification painting her cheeks pink. “Oh God. I’m sorry. I’m a mess.”

“Why are you apologizing? Don’t be ridiculous. I actually went in to check on you, but you were still sleeping, so I didn’t want to disturb you.”

Disturb me?” She laughs hollowly. “Trust me… being woken up wouldn’t disturb me...”
